We Don't Have to Suffer
We don’t have to suffer. No matter how intense or unpleasant an experience may be in life, suffering arises from a commentary in the mind. This is similar to the experience of boredom. It’s our judgement of the situation that creates suffering.
I am not saying that intense physical or emotional ‘pain’ feels good. It’s quite the opposite. This intensity however, may lead one out of the frying pan and into the fire of the mind.
Loss of Free Will
The paradox is If one judges the experience and continues the narrative of injustice, one may find less and less options that could lead to resolution of the situation. This loss of free will only keeps feeding the negative experience. It also seems to feed the underlying narrative.
Getting our free will back
We can transcend the story and judgement of the situation however by putting our attention on what we feel in the body. When we directly experience the sensations that are arising, we begin unraveling the roots the negative situation. We may even notice insights arising that lead to the resolution. This is our Buddha-nature that is awake and free of suffering.
We all have the ability to help ourselves. It doesn’t mean we don’t go to the doctor or take medication. We do whatever we need to do. Realize there are other things that we can do to support them and ourselves. That is what this work is all about. We don’t have to suffer. – John Newton, from his Free Call, Monday, 29 Feb 16 www.healthbeyondbelief.com
